Poached Egg with Ham Espuma

Monday, October 12th, 2009, 09:13 am

On Friday, driving from Linz to St. Anton am Arlberg, we stopped in Salzburg at Hangar 7. Our intention wasn’t only to see some aircraft; the Carpe Diem Lounge-Café offered us a wonderful breakfast. I found something interesting on the menu that I couldn’t resist: poached egg with ham espuma. I had no idea what to expect and was quite surprised: a bowl filled with a very fluffy foam covering the poached egg. After talking to the waitress and additional research, I am still wondering about the preparation of the foam.

Two Eggs, Poached

Thursday, January 29th, 2009, 03:18 pm

My American host family over Christmas always spoiled me with delicious food; breakfast usually included two poached eggs. Now, I tried several times to cook poached eggs. This morning I did a pretty good job!

And here is what I just had for lunch (soft bread with pickles, and, of course, Coke):

New Years Eve

Thursday, January 1st, 2009, 02:33 pm

Imagine. You are miles away from home for New Years Eve. And all you hear in the radio is music of Johann Strauß. And you are surrounded by people who truly appreciate this music. Would you be a proud Austrian? However, I was.

In the evening we’ve been to a small concert. It ended with “Vienna, City of My Dreams” and the obligatory “Radetzky March”. What a moment! For midnight, we enjoyed fireworks and we watched a strawberry dropping. (People in Pennsylvania are dropping things for New Years Eve. If you look through the entire list, you recognize that this is kind of unique to Pennsylvania.)

Last Karaoke In Austria

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008, 02:27 am

This evening it was the last time to go out for karaoke with my friends in Austria before I leave to the US. It was great! We had no camera with us. So here is a picture from a former karaoke evening.

Kunibert, The Knight

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008, 10:44 pm

Sorry guys, but this has to be written in German:

Der Ritter Kunibert,
der hatte ein sehr langes Schwert!
Und weil es ihm beim Reitern stört,
setzt er sich verkehrt aufs Pferd!

(It is about the knight Kunibert, which sat on his hourse upside down, because of his long sword.) The Czecks are really cool guys :)

Writing My Thesis in Vienna

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008, 10:10 pm

The library of my home university JKU in Linz has really poorly opening hours during holidays – it is opened from 9am to 12am. So (and of course because I like traveling), I’m writing my thesis in Vienna at the libraries of the University of Vienna and of the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration.
